COVID-19 national public health emergency extension
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has extended the COVID-19 national public health emergency by another 90 days. It was scheduled to end July 19, 2021 and now is scheduled through Oct. 17, 2021. The Summary of COVID-19 Temporary Program Provisions, COVID-19 Billing Guide and UHCprovider.com/COVID19 web pages have been updated to reflect this extension.

The use of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine has resumed, effective April 23, 2021. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) state that women younger than 50 years old should be aware of the rare risk of blood clots with low platelets after vaccination. Other COVID-19 vaccines, such as Pfizer and Moderna, are available where this risk has not been seen. The Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine Fact Sheets for healthcare providers and patients have been updated to include information about this very rare and serious type of blood clot.
